MACQUEEN (Troon) – Obituary

We are heartbroken to announce that on the morning of Saturday 6th August at 11.11, our wonderful father, James MacQueen, passed away peacefully.

As some of you may know, our incredible Dad has been bravely fighting Non-Hodgkins Follicular Lymphoma since 2016.

His passing was beautiful. He was surrounded by his four girls and our mum, his absolute world, Judy MacQueen. We were in the middle of pooja prayers, a Hindu ceremony guided by a Pandit, chanting blessings and prayers when he passed away peacefully. The timing was extraordinary and it has brought us all great solace knowing he will rest in eternal peace with a send off full of love and warmth.

He was the anchor of our clan. Not many people know this but he dedicated his love to his family by getting a tattoo in Koh Samui many years ago. It was a compass and J U D Y (mum’s name) was his North, South, East & West and in between the letters were his daughters initials V D P E to symbolize NE SE SW NW. He also had a sailing boat many moons ago and he called it “Elvidepa” after all four of his girls (Elidh, Vikki, Debbie, Patricia). The love we shared as a family was a bond like no other. He has shown us what true love is and his legacy will live on through all of us forever.

Although we would give anything to have had more time with Dad, we are so grateful for the past 8 months. The hospital called us on New Years Eve encouraging us to rush to his bedside to say our goodbyes when he unexpectedly fell ill. A week after that dreadful phone call, we managed to bring him home and we all pulled together to be his carers. He got better and stronger by the week, defying all the odds & astounding all the doctors. He was brave. He fought hard. We had precious times together & celebrated his 77th Birthday and his 53rd wedding anniversary.

Just a few weeks ago the doctors called again, this time wanting to try treatment. It was momentous because it meant he had recovered enough to be given another chance at chemo. Unfortunately, that round of chemo took a toll & he fell seriously ill again. We brought him home 10 days ago and we had more special, quality times together, sharing memories and recanting all of our incredible family adventures from all over the world.

He truly was the best father, grandfather and husband. He gave his life to his family and we couldn’t have been more blessed.
He was like no other. Wise, intelligent, humble, loving, hilarious and fun. He will be greatly missed but his bright light continues to shine and be our North Star, guiding us always and forever. Our compass. Our anchor. Our daddy. We love you. RIP. 🙏🏼❤️

James MacQueen’s funeral will be held on Monday, August 15th 2022 at 10.30am at Troon Old Parish Church followed by a graveside service at Troon Cemetery at 11.30am. James MacQueen will live on in our hearts forever.
